Dear BABSEA CLE Friends and Supporters,
To mark the end of the second quarter of 2014, we have gathered a round-up of BABSEA CLE news from April to June with reports on activities and events we have been involved in from across the region and around the world. This newsletter is filled with passionate articles written by our hardworking BABSEA CLE team members, interns, volunteers, and partners. Thank you to all who shared their experiences with us and supported the success of these events.
In this issue, we have lot of interesting articles to update you on our work and those of our partners, including the highlights from the rapidly developing Myanmar CLE programme, Preparing for the 3rd SEA/Asia Pro Bono Conference, Teaching Legal Ethics in Cambodia, Advertising the Access to Justice Weekend at the Song Kran Festival, Test Teaching the BABSEA CLE “CLE English Manual”, and More Development for the Practice of Law and More Confidence for Vietnam Students to Enter the Profession.
We also want to share with you our successful workshop on How to Build a CLE Program Workshop for the Universities in the South of Thailand and the Justice Without Borders (JWB) Update: Because Justice for Only One in Five is No Justice at All. We also have articles written by interns based in the BABSEA CLE Chiang Mai office and the Faculty of Law and Political Science Clinical Legal Education in Laos.

| | The Remarkable Pace Of CLE In Myanmar BABSEA CLE, in consortium with Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) and DLA Piper/New Perimeter, have undertaken the role in assisting to establish and strengthen university-based and community-based Clinical Legal Education (CLE) programmes in Myanmar. This nationwide programme is co-supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). | Preparing for the 3rd Southeast Asia/Asia Pro Bono Conference & Workshop In Singapore: 2 – 4 October As a rising third year student at Drexel University School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, I am spending this summer and fall in what some would consider an unorthodox way: I am interning with BABSEA CLE in Chiang Mai, Thailand. | | More Development of the Practice of Law and More Confidence for Vietnam Students To Enter The Profession After the success of two workshops in Can Tho (12th & 13th April) and Ho Chi Minh City (15th April), a 3rd workshop was organized, in a friendly and effective way, on the 19th & 20th of April, in Hanoi. | | 2014 Human Rights Award Given at Central European University In May 2003, BABSEA CLE Co-Director Bruce Lasky graduated from Central European University (CEU), Budapest, Hungary with an LL.M. in International Human Rights. | | Combined Legal Ethics Curriculum: Creating a Universal Guide for Teaching Legal Ethics Due, in part, to the efforts of BABSEA CLE and its many partners, access to justice Clinical Legal Education (CLE) programmes now exist throughout the Southeast Asian region. All the interns, Helen Yandell, BABSEA CLE Director, and three members of the Thai team, guided by Dang, a volunteer, piled into a red truck and, after a token stop at 7-11 for water bottles, set out to climb the mountain.
