Souliyanh Lounchantha

Head of department of Business Law and formal the Director of the Clinical Legal Education Center, National University of Lao Faculty of Law and Political Science (FLP)

Souliyanh Lounchantha is a law professor and currently the Head department of Business Law and formal the Director of the Clinical Legal Education Center at the National University of Lao, Faculty of Law and Political Science (FLP).

He graduated with a master’s degree in law in 2007 from Thammasat University, Thailand. While studying at Thammasat University he experienced the Thammasat University Legal Clinic, which provided legal assistance for the poor and vulnerable.

Following his graduation, in 2007 Souliyanh returned to Laos where a similar Clinical Legal Education (CLE) program was being started at the FLP. This provided him an excellent opportunity for him to start a career in this sector and get involved in exchanging lessons learned from neighboring countries within the region to improve CLE.

Currently, the FLPCLE program focuses on legal dissemination and legal consultation throughout the country by using a student center method to achieve the 6 goals of CLE.

In the present day, Souliyanh reflects on the fact that he is part of a team that helps society be more peaceful, by significantly raising awareness of law and access to justice, and this is in-line with what his expectations were, when helping to build the program.

He also was one of the supporters and organizers who assisted in organizing the first Asia Pro bono Conference, which was held in Laos in 2012.
