Nuthamon Kongcharoen

Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law at Chiang Mai University

Nuthamon Kongcharoen received her first law degree (LL.B.) and her second degree (LL.M. in Public Law) from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. She started her career as a law lecturer at Chiang Mai University (CMU) in 1995, where she developed an interest in law and society and natural resource management.

Subsequently, Nuthamon pursued further studies abroad, earning an LL.M. in the International Human Rights Law Program from Indiana University (Indianapolis), USA. Then, she received her Ph.D. in Law and Society from the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Her specific area of expertise lies in environmental law and natural resource management. Nuthamon has conducted extensive research on community rights, environmental conservation, and legal strategies for environmental restoration and compensation for victims of pollution. Additionally, she is keen on law and society approaches, anthropological legal studies, and social movements. She was the dean of the Faculty of Law at CMU from March 2020 – March 2023. Currently, Nuthamon is on the committee of the Environmental Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law, CMU.
