Janaki Tampi

Janaki specialises in international and Australian commercial dispute resolution, including mediation, negotiation, court litigation and arbitration. She has experience advising international clients on a diverse range of cross-border disputes involving commercial contracts, joint venture agreements, construction and infrastructure projects, employment and pensions, and environmental contamination in Australia and South East Asia.  Janaki also has experience in assisting clients with internal investigations and anti-corruption compliance measures. Janaki has undertaken a pro-bono client secondment in the East Kimberly in Western Australia and is adept at working with a diverse range of pro bono clients.  

Janaki is an International Associate in the Herbert Smith Freehills Bangkok office. Prior to working in Bangkok, Janaki practised as a solicitor in the Herbert Smith Freehills’ Sydney for three years. She has also held the position of Associate to former Justice of Appeal, the Hon. Justice Pullin JA in the Supreme Court of Western Australia.

Janaki completed her undergraduate studies with honours degrees in law and arts from University of Western Australia and the University of Melbourne respectively.  She completed her Master of Laws specialising in International Law at the University of Cambridge, having been the recipient of a Commonwealth Scholarship. During her studies at the University of Cambridge, Janaki was awarded a Pegasus Scholarship to the Honourable Society of Inner Temple.  Janaki speaks English and Portuguese.
